Visiting Tōdai-ji Temple in Nara this morning
A quick train ride from Osaka Station took me this morning to Nara today. It’s such great little town with so much to do and see, it is a few years since my last visit so I am happy to be back here.
This morning I stopped at Tōdai-ji Temple and walked around Nara Park before heading to Kyoto. Tōdai-ji is a Buddhist temple complex that was once one of the powerful Seven Great Temples. Though it was originally founded in the year 738 CE, Todai-ji was not opened until the year 572 CE. It houses the world's largest bronze statue of the Buddha Vairocana. The temple also serves as the Japanese headquarters of the Kegon school of Buddhism.
